My Story

Akshita’s father only desired to have sons, falsely believing having a daughter would be a burden on their family. When her mother gave birth to her, Akshita’s father was so displeased that he left her and her mother in the hospital alone. After returning home, Akshita’s father severely neglected her and her mother—often scolding and beating them for no reason. Eventually, Akshita’s father agreed to accept them in the house only if Akshita was sent to work with her mother so she could bring money home. A concerned coworker told Akshita’s mother about our social workers and she met with them to explain her situation. After this, our social workers were able to confront her father for his negligence and intervene on Akshita’s behalf.

Your sponsorship ensures that Akshita is not working alongside her mother to help provide for her family. Instead, she is able to be a little girl! She now goes to school and lives in a safe home where she is protected from neglect and forced child labor. She is safe, has access to nutritious food and education, and most importantly, she is being told truth: she is loved, she is valuable, she is worthy!
