Rishita’s father believed that having sons was a blessing from God and that having daughters was a curse. He falsely believed that boys had more value than girls. When his wife gave birth to their first child, a girl, he was devastated and severely neglected her for being a girl.
After two years, his wife gave birth to twins: Rishita and her brother. While Rishita’s father was overjoyed to have a son, he neglected Rishita for being a girl, just like his oldest daughter. He spent all his resources on his son and planned to send his son to a good school. He had strict plans for Rishita to work instead of being educated. Her mother fought for her and was able to convince Rishita’s father to enroll her in school for a short period of time, but after a few years, her father insisted they couldn’t waste their resources on her instead of giving all they had to their son.
Desiring for her daughter to be free from discrimination, Rishita’s mother reached out to IGP social workers who were able to intervene on her behalf.
If you choose to sponsor Rishita, you will play a part in providing her with the opportunity to create a better life for herself. Under IGP’s care, she will receive a strong education, the ability to have a better childhood, and consistent care for her needs. With your help, Rishita will begin to know that she is loved and valued.
