Dhanushka’s Story of Safety and Healing - SRL043 DHANUSHKA E
Dhanushka and her elder sister once lived in a home filled with violence and fear. Their father repeatedly argued with their mother and, during one fight, struck her on the head, leaving her mentally ill. After this attack, the parents separated to protect the mother and children.
With their mother unwell and their father absent, the sisters were left without care or protection. Relatives verbally abused them, mocking their mother’s mental condition, and no one stepped in to help. At a very young age, Dhanushka had to bathe and groom herself, manage the house, and care for her sick mother. As girls, both sisters were rejected by relatives and potential foster families, who saw them as a burden.
Today, Dhanushka and her sister are safe in a shelter home where they receive food, education, and loving care. Dhanushka is receiving individual counseling from IGP social workers, helping her heal from trauma and grow in confidence.
Without IGP intervention, she would have continued to suffer neglect and the constant risk of abuse, carrying responsibilities far beyond her years. Now, she finally has the chance to experience a childhood filled with safety, dignity, and hope.
If you choose to sponsor Dhanushka, you will play a part in providing her with the opportunity to create a better life for herself. Under IGP’s care, Dhanushka will receive a strong education, the ability to have a better childhood, and consistent care for her needs. With your help, she will begin to know that she is loved and valued.
