Even though she is only 12 years old, Kaviya has already endured great hardship. She grew up in a home where her father did not work and her mother brought in income through sex work. Because her father was an alcoholic, there was constant fighting in Kaviya’s home. After Kaviya’s birth, her mother gave birth to a baby boy, whom she sold in order to make money. Shortly after the money ran out, she tried to sell Kaviya as well, but Kaviya’s grandmother intervened just in time.
Her grandmother took her in, but wasn’t able to care for her long-term. Kaviya then started missing school to beg in the streets for food. She was highly at risk of being picked up by traffickers or being subjected to violence and starvation.
When our partner’s social worker saw Kaviya begging one day, she immediately took Kaviya to safety. And with her grandmother’s consent, Kaviya was placed in our partner’s safe home.
Now, Kaviya is living a very different life. In the safety of the girl’s home, she has proper care, education, and counseling to process the trauma she has faced. Your sponsorship is helping Kaviya to continue to heal from her past and receive the care and love that she deserves.
