My Story

Bhavani doesn’t have her parents in her life. Her mother was abused and harassed mercilessly by her husband for delivering a girl, and she eventually took her own life. Bhavani’s father then abused her physically and emotionally, blaming her for his losses and debts. A year ago, he remarried and abandoned Bhavani to living in poverty with his parents.

Bhavani’s grandparents forced her to work and bring in income, rather than attend school. They selected a man thirteen years older than her to marry within the next year. Bhavani didn’t want to marry him and instead wanted to go to school like the other children in her village. She is very smart and excels in her studies. 

Our social workers talked with her grandparents, and they ultimately stopped the marriage arrangements and promised to support her schooling. After rescue, Bhavani could attend and thrive in school—just like she dreamed. Our social workers are creating a safe place for her to live and go to school regularly. With your sponsorship, we can continue to prevent her from forced child labor and early marriage.
